Counselling and Psychotherapy
At times, most of us experience some form of distress and some difficult feelings, such as anxiety or emptiness. These experiences may be produced by current circumstances, such as relationship difficulties, illness or bereavement, and may stir up buried memories and feelings linked to the past. All too often, our distress can have profound effects on those close to us and may impact on important areas of our lives, such as relationships or work.
When we see little hope for change, and are no longer able to resolve conflict and reduce our suffering or disappointment, we need help.
Professional help provides a safe contained space to explore experiences in more dept. By developing a greater understanding of what has happened and the impact this has, we can work towards building a more effective capacity to deal with experience positively.
I work with those who have come to a point where they feel unable to navigate their lives and relationships adequately for their needs and want time and support to understand how they have come to manage and respond to challenges and difficulties.
If you feel that life is getting on top of you and that you could benefit from taking some space to explore your thoughts and feelings, I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I work with both individuals and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.
It maybe that you have experienced one or several of the following.
Feeling an overwhelming, prolonged sense of helplessness and sadness.
Your problems may not seem to get better despite your efforts and help from family and friends.
You may find it difficult to concentrate on your work or to carry out everyday activities.
You may worry excessively, expect the worst or are constantly on edge.
You may rely on actions such as drinking too much, using drugs, being short tempered or aggressive which can erode your relationships.
You may have or be harming yourself
I am experienced in helping clients who have experienced difficulties with :
I start with an initial assessment that allows me to understand the client's early life experiences leading up to current situations and challenges that have led them to seek help. We begin to build a picture of these experiences and what pathways taken that have led to where you find yourself now. This first assessment has often been very useful to the client in helping to review and reflect on the past and also provides more clarity in what help might be needed and how to proceed.
